Fadeeva Inna Avenirovna, Cand. of Econ. Sci., Prof. Department of English, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Moscow, Russia.
Keywords: Scotland, referendum, economy, risks, threats, deficit, export, investments, expenses. Abstract. The article discusses the economic aspects of the separation of Scotland from the UK, focusing on the benefits, risks and threats to the new independent state. Particular emphasis is placed on the state of the economy of Scotland, its main basic industries, dependence on the fuel and energy complex, public debt and budget deficits, labor productivity. Special attention is paid to the advantages that Scotland will be able to realize if the oil and gas are individually developed in the North Sea, but also the risks associated with the volatility and volatility of energy markets are noted. The analysis of intergovernmental transfers by regions of the UK and the dependence of Scotland on subsidies from the United Kingdom. It also substantiates the need for a clear formalization of measures and identification of sources necessary for managing the budget deficit. In addition, forecasts of deterioration in the dynamics and structure of Scotland's foreign trade are examined. A particular threat is the fact that every industrial sector in Scotland depends on the EU as an export market. If Scotland withdraws from the UK, the country will have to enter into its own international trade agreements with partners outside the UK. However, it was noted that in the event of separation, Scotland has special export advantages, this applies to drinks, and, first of all, Scotch whiskey. In addition, the article indicates that certain economic dividends in the separation of Scotland will be able to generate the service sector, the tourism sector, the construction industry, retail trade, as well as such export positions as fish and seafood, leather goods.
